As you might know, a new $10 bill will be introduced later in 2026. As news comes out, we will notify you. So, please email us and we will keep you updated.
It will be the first bill in a series of new banknotes to be introduced every two years. It will be followed by the $50 in 2028, the $20 in 2030, the $5 in 2032, and finally the $100 in 2034.
The primary reason for the introduction of these new banknotes is to stay a step ahead of counterfeiters.
As the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) pointed out, “Notes must be resistant to increasingly sophisticated counterfeit attacks. So, security is the primary purpose of the redesign.”
While this protects citizens against the malicious efforts of counterfeiters, it presents challenges for financial intuitions, retailers and other companies handling cash.
Currency counter manufacturers have not announced which of their counters will be upgraded. However, machines will need to scan one or both sides of the entire bill.
Therefore, only modern discriminators with either Dual or Single Contact Image Sensor (CIS) technology and, software-upgradable firmware (via USB or network) will be upgradable.
Respectively, you might think now about being pro-active in addressing this change. There is a chance there might be a backlog in either new currency discriminator orders or software upgrades that require vendor on-site visits.
Money Machines International can help in the following ways.
- Identity which of your currency counters software can be upgraded and, at what cost. Then, if necessary, pre-schedule on-site upgrades.
- Identify which of your currency counters software cannot be upgraded. If you choose to replace it, we will present a Proposal for the best price/performance counter.
- Provide your staff with educational information and/or links about the new banknote.
